All three phones in the Galaxy S25 series will run on One UI 7, an all-new version of Samsung’s Android operating system that brings a redesigned interface and support for agentive (eg autonomous) AI capabilities. A company press release says One UI 7 will make the Galaxy S25 series “a true AI companion,” adding that it will “gradually” roll out to other Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy S25 series is powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for the Galaxy, which supposedly translates to a significant performance boost in CPU, GPU and NPU tasks compared to last year’s high-end Galaxy S24 Ultra. (Our testing in the near future will confirm this.) Samsung said it’s also making the phones capable of more on-device AI processing, making them less dependent on the cloud for “AI experiences” — ie ., faster and safer. They have a revised heat dissipation structure that should keep them cool in the middle of these intense workloads.

The Galaxy S25 is the base model of the series, and in terms of design, it is slightly thinner and lighter than the previous generation Galaxy S24. It also features more memory: Samsung has increased it from 8GB to 12GB of RAM. Otherwise, its specifications are quite similar to those of its predecessor. It features the same 6.2-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, the same 4,000mAh battery and the same storage options (128GB or 256GB). It also has the same rear camera setup stacked with a 50MP wide lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens – although the Galaxy S25 supports new AI-powered photo and video features such as a Virtual Aperture tool and 10-bit. HDR registration by default.

The Galaxy S25+ improves on the base model with a slightly larger and more beautiful 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display featuring new “ProScaler” technology, which offers a 40 percent improvement in image quality compared to the Galaxy series S24 (so claims Samsung). The Galaxy S25+ also has a larger 4900 mAh battery.

That battery is a holdover from last year’s Galaxy S24+, as are your configurable devices: The Galaxy S25+ still has 12GB of RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of storage. It’s a hair thinner and a few grams lighter than its predecessor, but otherwise looks identical. Again, the OS and the new AI-integrated processor are supposed to be the stars of the show here.
